Visit the Neath Valley

Visiting Cwmgwrach, Glynneath, Pontneddfechan (Pontneathvaughan), Pont Walby and Ystradfellte.

Apart form dropping into our local shops, including an award nominated wool and needlework shop Valley Wools, and a busy Donut shop, there are many reasons to visit our villages Glynneath, Cwmgwrach, Pontneathvaughan, at the top of the Neath Valley in South Wales.

There are many walks or cycle routes that can be followed from the village. Our canal which weaves through the valley to Neath is one example. There are the old iron works, there is the viaduct on Brunels’ railway, the fascinating Cwm Gwrelych Geo Heritage Trail and more.

Glynneath is becoming known as the ‘Gateway to Welsh Waterfall Country’. Just over a mile away from Glynneath lies the small village of Pontneathvaughan. From here you can follow paths along the rivers and see the many waterfalls. Or you can follow the gentle and informative walk through our gunpowder works.

Glynneath lies on the Southern side of Brecon Beacons National Park. It is a short drive to places like the National Showcaves Centre at Dan-yr-Ogof for example or to the Brecon Moutain Railway near Merthyr Tydfil.

Once you have trekked or rambled, cycled or walked you can refresh yourselves in one of several ‘locals’. In Pontneathvaughan there is the ‘Old White Horse Inn’ and the ‘Angel’, both great for food too. There is the ‘Gadlys’ cafe which is excellent for a drink and a snack. Towards Glynneath there is the ‘Halfway house’ pub and then the ‘Dinas Rock’ pub. On the other side of Glynneath there is the ‘Lamb and Flag’, a great place to eat and stay and in Cwmgwrach we have the Dunraven Arms easily found on the High Street. Beside the pub is ‘The Mine’ restaurant which is well worth a visit.

If you fancy a spot of Rugby Glynneath RFC play at Abernant Park in Glynneath and you are sure to be welcome if you drop in for a drink or to watch a game. Visit their website to see whats going on.
